STAR SUMMER PROGRAM
Being accepted into this program gave us the opportunity to work for two architecture professors, Rachel Schade and Simon Tickell. Together, we researched and analyzed Drexel University's relationship with its surrounding communities, Powelton Village and Mantua. We read Jane Jacob's "The Death and Life of Great American Cities" to grasp an idea of urban development and incorporated into our analysis. We also did first hand research by contacting Drexel's Office of Community Partnerships, incorporating succesful programs such as Habitat for Humanity and visiting the neighborhoods of interest. The product of the 10 week program was an interactive digital map whose layers could be altered to show different types of analysis for the use of developers, academics or homeowners.
